Basketball Recap: Dalton Pokorney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shelby-Rising City over Thayer Central

Shelby-Rising City lost against Thayer Central back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Shelby-Rising City Huskies took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thayer Central Titans.

Shelby-Rising City lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Dalton Pokorney, who posted 13 points along with six boards and three blocks. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times he's played. Noah Thelen was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Sam Souerdyke was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 16 en route to 22 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals for Thayer Central. That makes it four consecutive games in which Souerdyke has scored at least a third of Thayer Central's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukas Kroll, who had nine points and five boards.

Shelby-Rising City now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Thayer Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Coming up, Shelby-Rising City and Osceola will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Thayer Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
