Baseball Recap: Abbeville Triumphs

Abbeville took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Opelousas, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Abbeville Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Opelousas Tigers 26-25 on Wednesday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 10 runs per game.

Braylon Himel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those two earned runs gave him a new career-low. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Abbeville let Trendon Campbell and Jacob Dugas run wild. Campbell scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances, while Dugas scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Those four runs gave Campbell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Javian Allen, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Abbeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Abbeville's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Opelousas, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
