Baseball Recap: Laurel Takes a Loss

Laurel fell victim to New Castle and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Spartans have suffered since May 28, 2025.

Laurel saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Zwolenik, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Laurel dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for New Castle, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel will face off against Aliquippa at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for New Castle, they will venture away from home to take on West Allegheny at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
