Volleyball Recap: Coronado Takes Down Ranked Sunlake

Coronado is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Sunlake. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Seahawks 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since October 1, 2024.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Coronado got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 21-25, 15-8.

RACHEL PURSER paced Coronado's offense, picking up 13 kills. PURSER got some help from TRU HALVORSEN and her 19 assists. GABRIELLA LEONE controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

The win (which was Coronado's third in a row) raised their record to 13-2. As for Sunlake, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-3.

Coronado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Academy of the Holy Names on the 13th. As for Sunlake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 loss against Vero Beach on the 13th.
