Baseball Game Preview: Great Oak Wolfpack vs. Murrieta Mesa Rams

For the second straight game, Great Oak will face off against Murrieta Mesa. The Wolfpack will host the Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Great Oak fell victim to Murrieta Mesa and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rams. The loss continues a trend for the Wolfpack in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost three in a row.

For Murrieta Mesa's part, the result came thanks to Cooper Child's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks. Child also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Rams are 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Murrieta Mesa saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Blackmon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Blackmon has posted since back in April. Bentley Dominguez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Murrieta Mesa and bumps their season record up to 15-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Great Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Great Oak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Murrieta Mesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts.
