Basketball Recap: Gibault Catholic Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

If Roxana wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Gibault Catholic, they should've done a better job of containing Karmon Grohmann. The Gibault Catholic Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over the Roxana Shells on Friday thanks in part to Grohmann, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Another player making a difference was Maggie Altes, who posted six points and 11 rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

With the win, Gibault Catholic broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-5. As for Roxana, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Gibault Catholic and Marissa/Coulterville will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Roxana, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
