Football Preview: Lafayette County Cougars vs. De Queen Leopards

The Lafayette County Cougars will venture away from home to take on the De Queen Leopards at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Cougars fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They came out on top against Hampton by a score of 24-14 last Friday.

Rodrevious Bailey was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also picked up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown. He got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 80 yards. Jordan Walters also helped out as he racked up 120 rushing yards.

Lafayette County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 313 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

Lafayette County's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB 5.5 times. Leading the way was Cedarius Miller and his two sacks. Lafayette County got some further help from Tasean Gulley: he picked up 0.5 sacks, forced a fumble, and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, De Queen can finally bid farewell to their 11-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. They claimed a resounding 35-0 win over Horatio on the road. The Leopards pushed the score to 21-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions had little chance of recovering from.
