Volleyball Recap: Branson Pirates vs. Webb City Cardinals
After flying high against Reeds Spring on Tuesday, Branson came back down to earth. The Pirates fell just short of the Webb City Cardinals by a score of 2-1 on Friday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Branson sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-10, 15-25, 25-9.
Emma Skoglund paced Branson's offense, picking up ten kills. Skoglund got some help from Erinn Swofford and her 21 assists.
Webb City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allison Collard, who had 11 digs and four aces. Those 11 digs gave Collard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Gardener, who had 17 digs and one assist.
Branson's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7-4. As for Webb City, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Branson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Willard on the 19th. As for Webb City, they will take on Kickapoo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
