Baseball Recap: Elizabeth Comes Up Short

Elizabeth extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They came up short against the Marquez Gladiators, falling 12-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 23-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Ramses Torres spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and eight unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Elizabeth saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Carmona, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Marquez, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Marquez, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Marquez's side, Jason Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Papias, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

While Elizabeth had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
