Basketball Recap: Gonzales Piles Up the Points Against Smithville

There's no place like home for Gonzales, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 67-38 victory over the Smithville Tigers. That 29 point margin sets a new team best for the Apaches this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gonzales to victory, but perhaps none more so than Damion Hunt, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 17 points and five steals. Hunt is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Brealien Jones was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 11 steals.

Gonzales smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Gonzales now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Smithville, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Gonzales will square off against Pearsall at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Smithville, they will face off against Little River Academy at 7:02 a.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Bumblebees have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
