Softball Game Preview: West Greene Pioneers vs. Jefferson-Morgan Rockets

West Greene has gone a perfect 10-0 against Jefferson-Morgan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Pioneers will be playing at home against the Rockets at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West Greene gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Mapletown as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The win was nothing new for the Pioneers as they're now sitting on four straight.

Payton Gilbert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kendra Tharp and Kylee Davis did most of the damage at the plate: Tharp went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Davis has posted since back in May of 2024. Marissa Tharp was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Jefferson-Morgan won against Bethlehem Center on Wednesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Rockets' pitchers stepped up to hand Mapletown a 17-0 shutout. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Maples recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

West Greene's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson-Morgan, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Everything went West Greene's way against Jefferson-Morgan in their previous matchup last Monday, as West Greene made off with a 9-0 victory. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
