Preview: Cumberland Dukes vs. Fuqua Falcons
The Cumberland Dukes will head out on the road to square off against the Fuqua Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Cumberland ended up a good deal behind Nottoway and lost 55-39. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cumberland has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Fuqua lost to Southampton Academy at home by a decisive 50-33 margin on Tuesday. Fuqua has struggled against Southampton Academy recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Fuqua's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mason Pleasants, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Sam Minix who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Pleasants pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Cumberland now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Fuqua, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight at home.
Cumberland beat Fuqua 51-44 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cumberland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
