Basketball Recap: Windermere Prep Triumphs

On Saturday, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Windermere Prep Lakers made off with a 48-47 victory over the Blake Yellow Jackets. The win was all the more spectacular given the Lakers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 27th).

Windermere Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samuel Shoptaw, who posted 14 points. What's more, Shoptaw also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Malachi Martis was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Blake still got an impressive performance from Joshua Lewis, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 15 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Joe Philon, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Windermere Prep has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Blake, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-3.

Windermere Prep will square off against Cornerstone Charter Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Windermere Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. Blake has already played their next game, a 68-66 win against Lecanto on the 20th.
