Softball Game Preview: Mariemont Warriors vs. Reading Blue Devils

Mariemont is 0-8-1 against Reading since April of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mariemont is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 19-9 to Deer Park.

Evie Metz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Quiambo, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Reading's offense. They came up short against Taylor on Wednesday, falling 10-0. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Reading saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Androne, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was Androne's first of the season.

Reading's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Mariemont, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mariemont has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Reading struggles in that department as they've averaged .556. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Mariemont might still be hurting after the 16-2 loss they got from Reading in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
