Softball Game Preview: Cumberland Dukes vs. Randolph-Henry Statesmen

Cumberland is 1-9 against Randolph-Henry since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Dukes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Statesmen at 5:00 p.m. Cumberland will be strutting in after a win while Randolph-Henry will be coming in after a loss.

Cumberland will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Prince Edward County on Tuesday. The Dukes put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 14-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Dukes in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Randolph-Henry didn't have quite enough to beat Nottoway on Tuesday and fell 3-2. The Statesmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kendall Snead put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

Snead wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lindsay Locke, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Locke has hit this season.

Cumberland's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Randolph-Henry, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
