Softball Recap: Briarcrest Christian Triumphs

Briarcrest Christian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Evangelical Christian on Monday. The Saints' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles an 11-0 shutout. The Saints not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th.

Ellen Adair made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Gleason, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Pierce, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Briarcrest Christian's record now sits at 4-13. As for Evangelical Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Briarcrest Christian will face off against Collierville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Evangelical Christian, they will challenge Harding Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.8 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
