Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Takes a Loss

Sacred Heart Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carlmont Scots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 on Wednesday.

Kyle Sweeney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

Sacred Heart Prep's loss dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Carlmont, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.

Looking ahead, Sacred Heart Prep will square off against King's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Carlmont, they will welcome Archbishop Riordan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (the Scots have three straight wins, the Crusaders have three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
