Football Recap: Houston Academy Comes Up Short

Houston Academy was the 45-7 winner over Providence Christian when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Raiders lost to the Eagles on the road by a 28-14 margin on Friday. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Houston Academy lost, don't look at Ty Morris. Despite the final result, he rushed for 59 yards and two TDs.

Providence Christian can attribute much of their success to John Martin Byrd, who picked up 79 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 38 yards. Those 79 receiving yards gave Martin Byrd a new career-high.

Houston Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Providence Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Houston Academy will square off against Bayside Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' defense better be ready for this one: the Admirals have averaged an impressive 39.1 points per game this season. As for Providence Christian, they will challenge Clarke County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 14.9 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them.
