Douglas is a perfect 10-0 against Damonte Ranch since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers will take on the Mustangs at 3:45 p.m. Douglas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Douglas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Reed, who was ranked second at the time (Douglas was ranked sixth). The Tigers came up short against the Raiders on Saturday, falling 12-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tigers, who until this contest were averaging 4.09 runs allowed.
Marissa McLelland was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Damonte Ranch waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Buckaroos. Damonte Ranch's victory was all the more impressive since the Buckaroos were averaging only 3.67 runs allowed on the season.
Mckenna Kiely tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Savanna Esqueda was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Madeline Wackowski was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
Damonte Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Damonte Ranch's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Douglas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-7.
Damonte Ranch's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Douglas has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Damonte Ranch, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Douglas' sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Douglas took their win against Damonte Ranch when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
