Damonte Ranch and Bishop Manogue are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will square off against the Miners at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Damonte Ranch will be strutting in after a win while Bishop Manogue will be coming in after a loss.
Damonte Ranch is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Galena, sneaking past 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Damonte Ranch got a massive performance out of Madeline Wackowski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Olivia Mares was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Damonte Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue faced Reed in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Miners lost 9-1 to the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Miners have suffered since May 9, 2024.
Bishop Manogue saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiki Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Damonte Ranch has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-16 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Bishop Manogue, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-10-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Damonte Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Bishop Manogue struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Damonte Ranch might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Bishop Manogue in their previous meeting last Monday. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
