Basketball Game Preview: Trico Pioneers vs. New Athens Yellow Jackets

Trico hasn't had much luck against New Athens recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Trico Pioneers will host the New Athens Yellow Jackets at 1:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Trico easily dispatched Goreville on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Trico fell just short of Chester by a score of 37-34 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, New Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Red Bud 59-11. The matchup marked the Yellow Jackets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Brooke Deterding was New Athens' leading scorer, having posted five points. Aubrey Albers held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Jamie Wilson took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

New Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Trico, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.

Trico strolled past New Athens when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 34-16. Does Trico have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Athens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
