Basketball Game Preview: Watauga Pioneers vs. Lake Norman Wildcats

The Watauga Pioneers will face off against the Lake Norman Wildcats on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Watauga sitting on nine straight victories and Lake Norman on 19.

Watauga is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 74-55 win over Northern Guilford.

Meanwhile, Lake Norman faced North Mecklenburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Lake Norman was the clear victors by a 67-45 margin over North Mecklenburg. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 22 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Lake Norman's victory was their 17th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 45.5 points. As for Watauga, their win bumped their record up to 22-5.

Watauga was dealt a bruising 74-40 defeat at the hands of Lake Norman in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Watauga was down 39-12.
