Pine Island scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Chatfield Gophers by a score of 14-13. The Panthers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Jenna Schleusner was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Evie Nold, who earned four runs.

Pine Island's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Chatfield, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine Island will challenge Randolph at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Chatfield, they will take on Plainview-Elgin-Millville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Gophers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
