Softball Recap: Utica's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Utica can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Lakeview Huskies by a score of 4-1. This was a revenge game for the Chieftains: when they faced off against the Huskies back in April, they had to take a 9-6 defeat.

Violet Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Ava Brunning was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Kylie Condon, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Utica's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Lakeview, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Utica will venture away from home to square off against Anchor Bay at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lakeview, they will head out to take on St. Clair at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
