King George and Stafford are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Foxes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. King George has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Stafford will come in with three straight victories.
Last Thursday, King George didn't have quite enough to beat Culpeper County and fell 8-7.
Paige Headley was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Kallie Slovack, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Stafford got themselves on the board against Brooke Point on Friday, but Brooke Point never followed suit. They came out on top against the Black Hawks by a score of 4-0.
Angela Dreistadt was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Dreistadt wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tru Shealy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Shealy also scored a run, marking her first of the season. Another was Bailey Fillis, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Stafford hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brooke Point struck out 12 times.
Stafford's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for King George, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. King George has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Stafford struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
King George beat Stafford 6-3 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Foxes repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
