Football Recap: Perry Central Bulldogs vs. Kemper County Wildcats
Perry Central and Kemper County squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Perry Central had to settle for second. They took a 41-22 bruising from the Kemper County Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Wildcats are ranked 49th).
Perry Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brayden Weathers, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a touchdown. Weathers' receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 109 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cephus Pruitt, who rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Kemper County had a senior duo take command as Kendetryon Backstrom rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries and Al'Javion Gordon gained 201 total yards and three touchdowns. Backstrom also set a new season high mark in passing yards with 326.
This is the second loss in a row for Perry Central and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for Kemper County, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
