Football Recap: Pine Belt Takes Down Magnolia in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pine Belt had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past the Magnolia Wildcats, posting a 56-6 win. Considering the Spartans have won five matchups by more than 21 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Samuel Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 65 yards and one TD. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 106 rushing yards. Jackson Clifton was another key player, rushing for 76 yards and one score on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pine Belt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 298 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards in nine consecutive contests.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Pine Belt's defense and their four sacks. Eli Riley was especially locked on to Magnolia's QB and sacked him twice. Eli Bowling got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Pine Belt's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.5 points over those games. As for Magnolia, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-10.
