Basketball Recap: Oasis Academy Takes a Loss

Oasis Academy lost against Yerington back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Oasis Academy Bighorns lost to the Yerington Lions at home by a 47-31 margin. The Bighorns were down 39-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Oasis Academy lost, don't look at Grace Laca. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 58.1% of Oasis Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Emma Lewis, who put up five points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Oasis Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Yerington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laney Triplett led the charge by putting up 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Triplett's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadynn Ramsey, who had six points and ten rebounds.

Oasis Academy now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Yerington, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Oasis Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 28-26 win against Sierra Lutheran on the 16th. As for Yerington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-32 victory against Coral Academy of Science - Reno on the 18th.
