Volleyball Game Preview: Wakefield Trojans vs. Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars

The Wakefield Trojans will take on the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars in a tournament on Thursday. Lyons-Decatur Northeast took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wakefield, who comes in off a win.

Wakefield not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 19, 2024 (when they won 3-0). They put the hurt on Madison with a sharp 3-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won nine in a row.

While Wakefield won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.

Wakefield can attribute much of their success to Ashlyn Riewer, who had 16 digs and two aces. That's the most digs Riewer has posted since back in October of 2024. Arianna Juarez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

Meanwhile, Lyons-Decatur Northeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 2-0 to West Point-Beemer.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Wakefield, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Wakefield beat Lyons-Decatur Northeast 2-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
