Baseball Recap: Troy Christian's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Troy Christian dropped their record down to 13-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 9-3 to the Legacy Christian Academy Knights. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2018.

Troy Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Twiss, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Legacy Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Legacy Christian Academy's side, Jacob Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Thompson has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on David Cancino, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Legacy Christian Academy: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Adriel Angel was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Troy Christian will host Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Legacy Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Clinton-Massie at 5:00 p.m.
