Basketball Game Preview: Dickson Comets vs. Lone Grove Longhorns

The Dickson Comets will venture away from home to face off against the Lone Grove Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Dickson has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Lone Grove will arrive with three straight victories.

Dickson is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Kingston on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Dickson was beaten by Kingston 51-23. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while the Redskins are ranked 49th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lone Grove). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Sulphur 67-37. The Longhorns have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Lone Grove pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points over those games. As for Dickson, their loss dropped their record down to 3-18.

Dickson strolled past Lone Grove in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 50-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dickson since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
