Basketball Recap: Bland County Comes Up Short

Bland County was the 57-50 winner over Eastern Montgomery when they last played one another last Monday, but their luck changed this time around. The Bland County Bears fell 51-39 to the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs on Thursday. While the Bears didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mustangs 16-7 in the first quarter.

It was another big night for Cyrus Underwood, who went 10-for-14 to rack up 21 points and six boards for Eastern Montgomery. What's more, Underwood also posted a 71% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cam Sutphin, who posted six points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Bland County's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Eastern Montgomery, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.

Bland County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-66 victory against Grayson County on the 8th. As for Eastern Montgomery, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-34 defeat against Parry McCluer on the 10th.
