Softball Recap: Charleston Gets the Win

Charleston won the last time they faced Mahomet-Seymour and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Trojans walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Bulldogs. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Raylin Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Avery Beals, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Lainie Keefer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Charleston's win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Mahomet-Seymour, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-23.

Coming up, Charleston will welcome Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mahomet-Seymour, they will head out to square off against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.8 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
