Basketball Recap: Union Local Beats Zanesville for Their Third Straight Win

Union Local entered their tilt with Zanesville on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 59-49 victory over the Zanesville Blue Devils. Given the Jets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 625th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Zanesville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Achaia Walker went 7 for 12 on her way to 17 points and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Walker a new career-high. Ayawna Gladden was another key player, putting up seven points and 11 rebounds.

Union Local has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Zanesville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Local has already played their next contest (against Wheeling Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Zanesville will venture away from home to take on Northridge at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Northridge will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Zanesville surely won't give up without a fight.
