Basketball Game Preview: Hernando Christian Academy Lions vs. First Academy Eagles

The Hernando Christian Academy Lions will head out to square off against the First Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. First Academy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hernando Christian Academy, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Hernando Christian Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Academy at the Lakes. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 58-51. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Hernando Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaden Montzka, who posted 26 points. That's the most points Montzka has posted since back in January of 2024. Cedric Jackson, Jr. was another key player, putting up 15 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, First Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 51-25 to Real Life Christian Academy. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-6.

Despite the loss, First Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rayce Teate put up seven points and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Teate. Luke Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

First Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Hernando Christian Academy, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hernando Christian Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like First Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Hernando Christian Academy strolled past First Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 57-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hernando Christian Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
