Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Creekside

Creekside had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Clay Blue Devils, sneaking past 3-1. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gavin Duprey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Connor Balazic was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Parker Morton was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Creekside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive games.

Creekside's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clay, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Creekside will welcome Lowndes at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Clay, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Suncoast at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clay 3.4, Suncoast 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
