Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Fernandina Beach

Fernandina Beach waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Hilliard Red Flashes. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-2 back in March.

Isabella Bishop was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Bishop was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kinleigh Curry was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Carsen Chmiel, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Fernandina Beach pushed their record up to 6-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hilliard, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Coming up, Fernandina Beach will venture away from home to square off against Fletcher at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hilliard, they will host Bishop Snyder at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Flashes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
