Softball Game Preview: Concord Spiders vs. Central Cabarrus Vikings

Concord hasn't had much luck against Central Cabarrus recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Spiders will host the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Concord will be strutting in after a victory while Central Cabarrus will be coming in after a loss.

Concord took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Northwest Cabarrus.

Alexa Hooks made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, McKinley Williams and Emilia Bradley did most of the damage at the plate: Williams got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Bradley went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Peyton Aagaard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Central Cabarrus didn't have quite enough to beat South Rowan on Wednesday and fell 9-8. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Concord now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Central Cabarrus, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.
