Volleyball Recap: Newtown Wins High-Profile Contest Against Amity Regional

Newtown faced Amity Regional in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Nighthawks were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Spartans. The Nighthawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Spartans, too.

Newtown was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-21, 25-21.

Newtown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dima Frunza, who had 27 assists and nine digs. Frunza is crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Sullivan, who had 17 digs.

Newtown was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Newtown's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Amity Regional, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Newtown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Danbury on the 19th. As for Amity Regional, they will host Xavier at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
