Baseball Game Preview: McDonogh Eagles vs. St. Mary's Saints

The McDonogh Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary's Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. McDonogh is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

McDonogh fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against St. John's Catholic Prep on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 11-10. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Michael Gorsky made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of McDonogh's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Andy Lambert, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Southern Maryland Christian Academy.

McDonogh's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

McDonogh beat St. Mary's 10-5 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
