Volleyball Recap: Steinbrenner Takes Down Lakewood Ranch in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Steinbrenner walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since September 13th.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Steinbrenner got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-27, 25-18, 23-25, 16-14.

Lexi Tschopp went supernova, getting 23 digs and two aces. That's the most digs she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Heidelberg, who had nine digs and one assist.

They weren't the only good servers: Steinbrenner was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakewood Ranch only served two.

Loss or not, Lakewood Ranch got some senior leadership from Mariana Alvarez and Hayden Zimmerman. Alvarez had 22 digs and five assists, while Zimmerman had 14 digs.

Steinbrenner's record now sits at 16-8. As for Lakewood Ranch, their defeat ended a four-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-9.

Coming up, Steinbrenner will challenge Sunlake at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lakewood Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
