Softball Recap: Maynard Takes Down Ranked Narragansett Regional

Maynard faced Narragansett Regional in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 8-1 win. Considering the Tigers have won three matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jillian Macfarlane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Elizabeth Schmidt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Abigail Karlon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Maynard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

Maynard's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Narragansett Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maynard will venture away from home to face off against Bromfield at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.4 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Narragansett Regional, they will head out to square off against Ayer Shirley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
