Basketball Game Preview: South Miami Cobras vs. Varela Vipers

The South Miami Cobras and the Varela Vipers will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. South Miami's defense has only allowed 23.3 points per game this season, so Varela's offense will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, South Miami came up short against Reagan and fell 27-20. The loss continues a trend for the Cobras in their matchups with the Bison: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Varela waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Barracudas by a score of 38-27. While the Vipers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

South Miami's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Varela, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

South Miami ended up a good deal behind Varela in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 40-22. Thankfully for South Miami, Leia Vanterpool (who went 6 for 13 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time.
