Baseball Recap: Purdue Polytechnic's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Purdue Polytechnic hadn't done well against Irvington Preparatory Academy recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Techies put the hurt on Irvington Preparatory Academy with a sharp 14-2 victory. The Techies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

Diego Briceno Vega made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Alvaro Sanchez and Nevan Jeffers did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Jeffers went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Sanchez has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jackson Jeffers, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Purdue Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvington Preparatory Academy only posted an OBP of .190.

The win was the fourth in a row for Purdue Polytechnic, bringing their record up to 9-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, their record is now 12-4.

Coming up, Purdue Polytechnic will take on Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, they will challenge Indianapolis Shortridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.82 runs per game on average), something Irvington Preparatory Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
