Baseball Recap: Donna Gets the Win

Nine must be Donna's lucky number: they beat Edcouch-Elsa with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Redskins beat the Yellowjackets by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-8. Surprisingly, this marked the Redskins' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Max Torres looked comfortable as he tossed 0.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ethan Rincon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Donna's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 9-12 when he doesn't). Ronaldo Bocanegra was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Donna hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got Donna back to even at 12-12. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Donna will venture away from home to take on Lopez at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Redskins' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they will host Porter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cowboys have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.9 runs per game on average), something the Yellowjackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
