Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Bertrand's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Bertrand unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 54-38 bruising from the Alma Cardinals. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-31 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Bertrand lost, don't look at Marcus Hernandez. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points and six boards. Hernandez's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alma to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zavier Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Mitchell is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Neal, who went 5 for 12 en route to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Bertrand's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5. As for Alma, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home.

Bertrand wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-38 victory against Paxton on the 1st. Alma has also already played their next contest, a 61-52 win against Dundy County-Stratton on the 1st.
