Basketball Recap: Cheylin Cougars vs. Weskan Coyotes
The Cheylin Cougars's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Weskan and snuck past 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Cheylin has posted since January 11th.
Pablo Bermudez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Ketzner, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Weskan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trey Allen. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 43.1% of Weskan's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Judah Crow was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Weskan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheylin only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Cheylin is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Weskan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.
Cheylin will be playing at home against the Buffaloes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Weskan will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Bethune is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
