Phillips (Chicago) vs. Althoff Catholic (Belleville, Ill.)
Friday, 7 p.m. Central time

Why it's big: Friday's 4A championship game represents a chance for Phillips to become the first Chicago Public League team to win a football state title and the opportunity for Althoff Catholic to claim its first crown in 26 years.

Phillips has rolled to a 13-0 record, winning by an average margin of 34 points and dominating the CPL portion of its schedule by a combined score of 322-31. The Wildcats became the first CPL team to reach a state final when they lost to Rochester in last year's 4A championship.

Althoff Catholic (13-0) last reached a championship game in 2012, but hasn't won it all since its back-to-back titles in 1989-90. The Crusaders eliminated four-time defending champion Rochester in the quarterfinals and thumped Mater Dei (Breese), 48-20, last week.

Names to watch: Senior quarterback Quayvon Skanes ran for more than 200 yards with four touchdowns on a snow-swept field to lead Phillips to a 47-13 blowout of previously unbeaten Marengo.

Five different players have contributed over 1,000 total yards to Althoff Catholic's potent offense. The most explosive player on the team is senior receiver Keenen Young, who is second in Illinois with 16 receiving touchdowns and sixth in the state with 1,049 yards.
