Basketball Recap: Wallkill Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Wallkill won the last time they faced New Paltz, and Zoe Mesuch did her part to make sure it happened again. The Wallkill Panthers enjoyed a cozy 58-41 victory over the New Paltz Huguenots on Thursday thanks to Mesuch, who almost dropped a double-double with 31 points and nine steals. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Wallkill's points.

Another player making a difference was Gabriella Gualtiere, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most points she has posted since back in February of 2024.

New Paltz lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Callie Meyer, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards. Charletta Goode was another key player, going 5-for-11 on her way to 11 points and six rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Wallkill and bumps their season record up to 9-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points over those games. As for New Paltz, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Wallkill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-24 victory against Onteora on the 18th. As for New Paltz, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-39 defeat against Goshen Central on the 18th.
