Softball Recap: Shepherd Pirates vs. Robinson Rockets
Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Shepherd couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Robinson Rockets by a score of 7-6 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Thursday.
Isabelle Hooper was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Hooper wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Skyleigh Lagow, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Rylei N was another, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Shepherd has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 26-12 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Robinson, the victory was the 26th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 33-2.
As of now, neither Shepherd nor the Rockets have any future games scheduled.
